Shady Grove Hat Co. is run by A.J. Penny, custom hat maker. A.J. developed a passion for wearing hats when he was very young which grew into an interest in learning how to make them. At age 17, he studied under expert hat maker, Mike Moore of Buckaroo Hatters, in order to learn the art of custom hat making. The techniques utilized are 100+ years old. A.J. uses very high quality materials in his hat making; the highest quality is the 100% beaver felt (100X). He specializes in making fedora styles, western styles and top hats, all of which can be customized. (The color of felt, crown crease, brim size, brim style, ribbon type, ribbon color, bound edge, leather sweatband color and of course hat size, can all be chosen by the customer). The sweatband and ribbon are all hand stitched as well. Everything about these hats is high quality and fine hand made USA craftsmanship.
